hyperdrive concept site

Desktop and mobile design concepts

for Netflix original drift racing challenge

Hyperdrive Season 2.

Hyperdrive is a Netflix series where amateur drift racers from around the world are invited to compete in a series of challenges specially engineered for the show. After finishing the last episode, a screen inviting people to apply for season two is shown. I went to the link and found a very minimal site, and decided it would be a good opportunity to practice designing within branding guidelines as well as creating both desktop and mobile versions of the same design.

As always, I began with some rapid sketching to get multiple ideas out to choose from. I chose to design a homepage and application form, as those are the two necessities for the site. After sketching I started mocking up my designs in Adobe XD. After I got the basic shapes laid out, I started to work on the visual design elements. Going off of the existing site and what I had seen from the show, I knew I wanted a very modern, high contrast look. To do so I decided on a dark background, and used Affinity Designer to create a focal image using a photograph of one of the previous contestant's vehicles going through the course.

In addition to creating a desktop site, I wanted to create a matching mobile version, to practice translating designs for mobile as well as form creation. I simplified the designs, made buttons larger and more apparent, and made the navigation bar into a hamburger menu. With both designs I worked on creating navigation animations as well as button states, although XD doesn't currently support hover interactions or anchor links. Check out my prototypes below.
